Cursed...

It just doesn't stop. I cant get a break in the weather to paint my car. Its literally raining every single day! This is what happens when you don't have a garage. Its funny though, I think I've become a self-made meteorologist when I started this project. I can predict the weather by looking at the sky and putting my thumb up in the air. no need for computers.

OH, by the way. Check out my other site if you got nothing to do.

What in the.....

If you were to drive by my house around 1-2pm and saw me on the roof with a feather headband and stay doing a rain chant, you'd be surprised. I think I get it to rain now. its been raining everyday almost at the same time. no updates on paint job.

Rain rain go away..

We need rain and all but this is started to get really annoying. Its been raining on and off all day\week.

If it aint one thing, its another...

Sorry still no updates. My knee is fine now but its getting that time where its starting to rain every afternoon. I dont want to risk the chance of screwing up the paint because of water.

Down for the count

I busted my left knee and ankle yesterday. I can barely stand up. hopefully this shit recovers in a couple days..

........sorry

I'm giving up on usercash. From now on, the pictures I post are NOT going to hosted by usercash. Its going to be hosted by good ol' photobucket. I was at work the other day and I tried to visit my blog here and got rejected by the company's internet filter. The site loaded up fine, but when I tried to click one of the pictures hosted by usercash, the filter kicked in and blocked it claiming it was a "sex" site. I definetly don't want to get some of you guys in trouble at work.

1st coat of brightside - complete

Ok I got the first coat on and sanded. This time there was no adhesion issues at all, which is great. Here are the some pictures.

The car is DRY in these pictures

oh HELL no!

DAMN! talk about a fuck up. Well I spoke with some of the guys over at the Moparts Forums and a number of things happened here. I never had adhesion problems. For the fact that when I first started on the hood (JAN archive), I sanded off, MOST of the clear coat. which led to a clean surface. Well, I got a bit hasty when I painted the whole car. The sun was almost over my head and I wanted to see the outcome, my fault. Anyways, what happened here was I didnt sand of the original paint. This car was made in 93, so all those years must of gathered up tons of contaminants. regardless of the numerous car washes its been through, There is always going to be contaminants that car washing soap and mineral spirits cannot remove. The paint came right off with the hose water pressure.

IM BACK!

OK, those issues are resolved and now I'm ready to tackle this project again. I managed to paint the whole vehicle with the brightside paint. 2 Things I should of done prior to painting the whole vehicle.

1 - I should have painted the gaps between the panels by spray bombing it.
2 - I should paint at least 1 layer both on my hood and trunk.

I'm not to sure if I should even put a layer on my hood, because I used a different paint.

Testing out on my trunk lid

I woke up this morning to find clouds out in the distance. but nice and clear in my area. After painting my trunk lid with the new brightside paint, I went inside for about 30 minutes to have breakfast with my girlfriends parents. this is what happened in 30 minutes..

Luckily, the intense Florida heat, hardened the outside layer before the water can do any damage. As for the paint, a little orange peel but great reflection.

NEW Paint, Interlux Brightside

Interlux Brightside paint is a marine paint. Its got Teflon and kind of goodies. With this paint supposably you can full coverage on 3 coats. sounds good to me! Thing is with this paint, it cost $25 a quart! I will be practicing on my trunk lid for this one.

Seventh and Eight coat - 3rd attempt

Damn, This is what im talking about. 8 coats in and this what you get. Now you have to understand something. This picture of my hood is SOAKING WET. When the hood is dry, its not as shiny. Thing with water is, its a tool to see how your hood would look like when you polish it up.

Third and Forth coat wetsand - 2nd attempt

NOOOO! Aw man this sucks. Ive burned through the paint AGAIN!. This time it was because of a small layer of the ORIGINAL clear coat on the edge of the hood. This small patch of clear coat acted as another paint layer. Now I know to sand off ALL of the clear coat before painting! I also burned the edges! note - no sanding edges.

Fourth Coat - 2nd attempt

Its really foggy out this morning. After finishing painting, the paint came out dull. The guys over at the Moparts Forum say that the fog can affect you finish!

Third coat - 2nd attempt

I work the graveyard shift and I usually start to paint at sunrise when I get out of work. You would think that 40 degree weather would keep bugs at a minimum. Well, not here in Florida. These bugs don't play. Its too bad, im starting to get really good reflection.

wet sanding - 2nd attempt

Sorry didn't take pictures, ran outta batteries! All I did was wet sand with 600g. I applied very little pressure while sanding.

First coat - 2nd attempt

I thinned down the paint mixture to the consistency of low fat milk. Now I think im heading in the right direction. The key here is thin thin thin layers and paint.

OK. Lets try this again.

Practice makes perfect, right? 220 grit works great as an "eraser".

1st and 2nd coat wetsand

As long as I keep the surface moist, wet sanding should be no problem. unfortunately this is my first time wet sanding anything. I over-did it and burned right through the paint.

Second coat

As usual, prepping the surface is vital to painting pretty much anything. I just laid down the 2nd coat. According to the guys over at the Moparts Forum, ive laid down my 2 coats way too thick. I should be getting complete coverage on my 4-5th coat!
